Cheddar is probably the best-known Irish cheese in Germany. The hearty cheddar is made from pasteurized Irish pasture milk and without artificial additives. It typically matures for 6 months, is naturally lactose-free and is also suitable for vegetarians. The hearty sliced cheese best develops its full flavor on its own with a glass of red wine or, as a crowning touch, gratinated on a casserole. Cheddar originally has a yellow base color. It traditionally gets its striking color by adding the natural plant dye annatto.
